Why I believe that there is a God
“In
the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” Gen 1:1
The
Bible assumes an existence of a God but should I?
This message is a
continuation of a series that I am working on of “Why I believe”. To see the
previous message with an Introduction and Why I believe there is only one truth

This week I want to
think through why I believe there is a God. There are two main reasons are the
natural universe that we see and because of experiences.
The first reason
that I personally believe that there is a God is because even if I did believe
in evolution, this world and everything in it is so complex that it would take
more faith for me to believe there is not a Creator then for me to believe in a
Creator that I have never seen.
Have you ever
thought of just the complexity of the human eye? How about a feather of a bird?
These are fashioned in such an intricate way that science alone cannot answer
how they came about. This doesn’t even begin to address the extreme complexity
of the brain and nervous system. Could God have used an evolutionary model for
all that we see today? I am sure it is possible but for me it is not possible
that evolution of any model could exist without a God. Even if you believe in
the “Big Bang” Theory or something like that how could everything have come into
existence from nothing without Something being in charge of that formation.
Science doesn’t
even really begin to explain to me how a fish became a dinosaur became something
became something and we have what we have today. Science gives me mathematical
formulas on how gravity affects objects or gives insight to atoms spinning
around at great speeds but it doesn’t tell me how it all holds together or why
it works the way it does.
How do you know a
painter exists? Without seeing the painter the only way to know is to see the
painting and know that someone painted it. Science has made great strides on
explaining many things in our universe but they have not done a good job to
explain these things to me.
All these features
of our natural existence screams to me that there is a Higher Power. There isn’t
any other way that makes sense. Perhaps I am simple minded but I don’t think any
of the universe will be explained in such a way to leave out the questioning of
a Higher Power.
The second main
reason that I cannot escape the reality of there being a God is all the
experiences that has been seen throughout time. Even through non-Christian
experiences I am able to see the existence of a spiritual existence beyond what
I see in the natural. There is an abundance of witchcraft, whether it is Wiccan,
black magic, tribal witchdoctor, or Voodoo magic that empowers people with
non-natural abilities and in my mind can be explained by observing the spiritual
realm.
I have seen on TV
of God healing an African woman with lip and cervical cancer. I have also run
into two patients at the hospital who died during an operation and the peace
that they have felt when they died and how they weren’t afraid of death anymore.
I have heard through the grapevine of many other miraculous events that are only
explained by a God’s existence.
There are many
stories both of the Christian God and also from other sources that I could
recall but all that I simply want to state is that there is a spiritual
existence that is not seen or understood in the natural.
I could talk of
millions of people who believe in some sort of a God but that would not help a
legit case because of the beliefs before that the world was flat or the earth
was the center of the universe. But I since I believe that people were created
in God’s own image then there is something innate in them that knows that they
were made for a relationship with the Creator.
The next sections
coming up will be on why I believe in Christ. In the meantime I found this
paragraph and will include it:
“God is far beyond
your comprehension either of what God is or if God is. Better that you wager,
for reason cannot decide. If you wager that God is, and it turns out that God is
not, then you have lost nothing. If you wager that God is not, and it turns out
that God is, then you have lost everything. But if you wager that God is, and it
turns out that God is, then you have gained everything.” Blaise Pascal
I hope you question
things and seek out truth instead of being blindly fed. I have no doubts of
God’s existence. Nature and experience scream loudly that One exists.
